The form that survives collapse is the man who still carries the measure after the structures have gone. Traditional order lived in rank, rite, and a path of initiation that formed the type in public. Those structures have fallen. What remains is the differentiated man continuing the same formation in himself. He keeps the type that once inhabited the order, and the keeping is the continuity still available.
The age announces that every higher form has ended, and the announcement works as a dissolving force. A circle offers belonging and calls the circle a replacement for rank. A role with a title attached pretends a form has returned because a name has been printed. Chatter treats the collapse as permission to stop forming anything at all. Each announcement files the interior work under nostalgia, while the work continues and leaves the lost world where the cycle put it.
Young men who feel the collapse often conclude that nothing higher remains possible. The conclusion arrives as advice. A job that rewards only output will tell him the only form left is volume, and that a standard with no institution behind it is a private taste. Softness agrees, and calls the agreement realism. The higher remains possible in the man who still orients by it, on a narrower field than a traditional age allowed.
Form the next act to the measure, and stop when the measure is met. Keep one hour that the collapse is not allowed to score. Speak the distinction the room has dropped, and leave it standing. Refuse the role whose gift is a substitute order made of other men's agreement. The man who continues this formation while the structures stay down is carrying the form the collapse did not take.
