Day 193 — Continuity of the Higher Type

"The continuity of the higher type under residual conditions is the only continuity that still belongs to the man capable of it. All other continuities have already been broken by the cycle." — Julius Evola, Ride the Tiger

Continuity of the higher type is the line a man can still carry after the collective supports of that type have broken. Traditional order once passed the type through rank, initiation, and a world that recognized the form. Those continuities have been cut by the cycle. The differentiated man continues the type in himself, and the broken chain is no reason to stop the formation. The continuity still available is the one he keeps by the permanent measure.

The age offers substitute lines and calls them inheritance. A circle offers belonging and treats shared opinion as the survival of a people. A role with a title attached pretends a lineage has returned because a name has been printed on a door. Chatter spends the hours mourning the break, and the mourning replaces the carrying. Each substitute asks him to wait for a continuity the cycle has already ended.

Young men who feel the break often conclude that nothing higher can continue. The conclusion arrives as advice. A job that rewards only output will tell him the only line left is production, and that a type with no institution behind it is a private taste. Softness agrees, and calls the agreement kindness to himself. Hunger to be seen asks him to perform the lost order for an audience that cannot continue it.

Carry the type through the next week without borrowing a false line. Keep one practice the broken order is not allowed to cancel. Finish the work to the measure, and leave the speech about the lost world unsent. Decline the role whose gift is a continuity made of other men's agreement. The man who continues this formation while the older lines stay cut is the continuity the cycle did not take.
