The differentiated man renews the stance from inside, and the missing public definition is no reason to let the age write a smaller one. What he remains is decided each day by the measure he still applies.
The age offers definitions that feel like arrival. A circle offers belonging and calls the shared softness a self. A role with a title attached supplies a definition the office can read, and the reading replaces the stance. Chatter spends the hours trying on names, and each name lasts until the room moves on. Every borrowed definition asks him to stop remaining what he is, because something outside has agreed to name him.
Young men who have held the stance for a while treat it as a finished identity. The treatment is the opening the age uses. A job that rewards only output will score him by volume and call the score his type. Softness says a definition kept without witnesses is performance, and proposes he relax into the room. Hunger to be seen asks him to display the stance until the display becomes the thing.
Renew the stance in the next week without collecting a new name for it. Keep the hour already set when the room is renaming itself. Finish the work to the measure, and leave the announcement of who you are unsent. Decline the role whose gift is a definition other men can approve. The man who can do these things while the age keeps dissolving definitions is still what the measure requires him to be.
