Day 195 — Interior Distance Under Residual Conditions

"Interior distance is the capacity to participate in the world of dissolution without allowing that world to determine the measure by which one lives." — Julius Evola, Ride the Tiger

Interior distance is the capacity to take part in the world of dissolution while the measure stays one's own. Traditional order once set distance in public: rank above rank, a visible gap the age itself maintained. That gap has closed. The differentiated man keeps the distance inside, and participation in the present world is no reason to let that world set the standard. The distance belongs to him for as long as he refuses the rewrite.

The age works to close every gap between a man and the current. A circle offers belonging and calls the closing of distance loyalty. A role with a title attached pays him to speak in the register of the office until the register becomes his own. Chatter spends the hours in the language of the room, and the shared language replaces the measure. Each offer asks him to treat participation as surrender, because a man at a distance looks uncommitted.

Young men meet this where work, speech, and company press at once. A job that rewards only output will score the surface and ignore the standard he kept off the sheet. Softness says distance is coldness, and proposes he warm until the room can feel him agree. The hours may be used. The right to define what is higher stays his.

Keep the distance through the next week while still doing the work in front of you. Speak the true sentence once, in your own register, and do not translate it for the room. Finish the task to the measure, and leave the extra agreement unsent. Decline the role whose gift is closeness bought by adopting the office standard. The man who can take part in this world and still live by his own measure is holding the distance the age cannot close.
